Current or Past Study:
As a medical student, I met patients who are suffering terribly from neurologic and psychiatric illnesses for which we have no effective treatments or cure. I am interested in studying how interneuron progenitors temporally and spatially integrate into brain circuits to function as mature cells. Better understanding this process may help elucidate the role of interneurons and inhibition in the pathogenesis of disorders like schizophrenia, autism, and Rett syndrome.
