Current or Past Study:
My general research interests concern the biological mechanisms underlying the developmental assembly and subsequent plasticity of neuronal circuits in the mammalian neocortex.  In the Fishell lab my projects focused on the roles of activity-dependent cellular processes that direct the maturation and synaptic integration of GABAergic inhibitory interneurons into nascent cortical circuitry.  To achieve these aims my research employed a combination of electrophysiological, optogenetic, and conditional genetic approaches to examine the roles of intrinsic transcription factors and extrinsic signaling pathways in specific interneuron subpopulations at discrete stages of embryonic and postnatal development.
